BYM 503E - Introduction to Biomedical Optics
Course Objectives
This course is designed to provide graduate students with a working knowledge of the theoretical and experimental principles underlying the applications of lasers in medicine. The students are encouraged to search for additional reading material at the library as well as internet resources, and to participate in or initiate discussions in class.
Course Description
Introduction. Introduction to spectroscopy. Interaction of EM radiation with matter. UV and visible absorption SPY. Introduction to wave propagation and scattering in random media. Monte Carlo modelling of light transport in tissues. Radiative transfer theory. Fluorescence SPY. Heat generation in tissue during laser irradiation. Applications - Paper discussions
