TEL 520E - Digital Video Processing

Course Objectives

This graduate level course aims to introduce fundamental theory and techniques for efficient representation and processing of digital video signals. Topics to be covered include: Image formation models, spatio-temporal sampling and sampling structure conversion. 2D and 3D motion estimation techniques. Video compression methods and standards (frame-based and object-based methods). Video communication standards. A number of advanced application topics will be covered including video indexing, browsing and retrieval, layered video representations, video streaming, compressed-domain video processing, video watermarking, video over IP and digital television.

Course Description

A number of theoretical methods and applications will be covered. Focus will be on 2D and 3D motion estimation.
