Course Objectives 1. To develop skills in managing compositional structure and materials, and techniques of
organising sound space through a series of electronic composition projects,
2. To inform about formative debates and theories of the sonic arts through reading
assignments,
3. To develop skills in critical listening such as spectral listening, and teach to identify basic
types of sound objects,
4. To inform about the significant schools of compositional style from 1950 to the present
day through a series of listening assignments,
Course Description Compositional skills such as managing form and development; critical listening, formal and timbre
analysis, learning existing critical trends and literature; audio programming, studio skills, and
relevant aspects of psychoacoustics and digital audio theory.
Course Outcomes Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and
competencies:
1, Competency to produce coherent small form, fixed media electroacoustic compositions
2, Ability to manage planning and execution of fixed media composition to external deadlines
3, Ability to identify fundamental technological processes and signal processing techniques
while listening to electronically produced sounds
4, Knowledge on relevant stylistic elements of electroacoustic works composed since 1950
