Course Objectives 1. Through readings, listening examples, and discussion, to provide students with knowledge about the varied role of percussion in different parts of the world,
2. To help students develop an understanding of musical performance through actual performance of percussion based music from various countries,
3. Through focused listening to selected examples develop the critical listening skills of the students and improve their understanding of the representative genres and stylistic features present in percussion music from different areas, To provide with an understanding of how these rhythms and instruments were shared and diversified across cultures,
Course Description The role of percussion isntruments in various cultures around the world, ethnological and historical information, hands on training in certain styles of hand drumming,
Course Outcomes On successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate:
1. Knowledge of the historical role and importance of percussion instruments from around
the world,
2. Knowledge of the technical properties of percussion instruments from around the world
and their playing techniques
3. The ability to recognise, understand, and perform percussion rhythms from around the
world,
4. Demonstrate critical listening skills by categorising and contextualising musical
examples from percussion music from around the world,
