MYE 5038E - Film Sound Analysis&Practice

Course Objectives

1. To introduce students to fundamental concepts and theories of film sound studies.
2. To develop a critical perspective on the relation of film sound and filmic narration.
3. To introduce students to sound design practices for film through selected projects and assignments.

Course Description

History of motion picture and film sound technologies, physical, temporal and spatial properties of film sound, narrative functions of film sound, production and post-production processes of film sound, location sound and ambiance design, special sound effect design, foley practices, voice-over, Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR), dubbing.
