Course Objectives
1. To teach on board pump line loss calculations.
2. To teach about pump application on board.
3. To teach about troubleshooting of auxiliary machinery and systems.
Course Description
Pump terminology. Total (differential) head. Pipe and valve losses. Flow control methods and affinity laws. Net positive suction head and cavitation. Troubleshooting on dynamic and positive displacement pumps, L/O and F/O separators, oily water separators, air compressors, refrigerating units, evaporators, incinerators, sewage plants, steering gears and ship pipeline.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Calculate pump system losses.
II. Understand flow control methods in pumping systems and remedy the problems.
III. Understand pump application and cavitation (NPSHR and NPSHA) in pumps and remedy troubles about them.
IV. Remedy troubles of F/O-L/O and oily water separators, air compressors, refrigerating units, evaporators (FWG), incinerators, sewage treatment plants and steering gears.
