Dersin Amaçları 1. To introduce the emerging information processing paradigm of computational cognition in the context of architectural design computing and computational theory of design
2. To let students gain insight into architectural design process through associated computational model
3. To enable students to question and enhance the design strategies and techniques they have been using based on the gained insight
4. To enable students to assess to what extent a particular computational representation models architectural design phenomenon
Dersin Tanımı Computational cognition; correspondence between computational cognition and brain cognition; perception and abstraction through probabilistic-possibilistic computation; Pareto non-dominance and Pareto frontier; knowledge elicitation by stochastic search; diversity in decision variable space and objective function space; auto-association; cognition as continuum of Pareto-non dominance in decision variable space; implications of computational cognition for design theory.
Dersin Çıktıları MSc students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the following subjects;
1. To develop one’s knowledge of historical, contemporary and specialized issues in the field
2. To understand the interdisciplinary interaction related with the field
3. To be able to assess new ideas and methods related to the field through systematic approaches
4. To be able to execute critical analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of new and complex ideas
5. To acquire high level skills in utilizing research methods
6. To develop a deeper understanding of design, so that they take design decisions with great awareness
Önkoşullar There are no prerequisites; yet, familiarity with Grasshopper and Rhino are useful, and some experience in programming would be ideal for maximizing a student’s learning benefit
Gereken Olanaklar The course will be conducted as lectures with weekly readings. During the course of the semester, it is compulsory for each student to submit five essays. One final paper is requested, with in-class presentation at semester end.
