Dersin Amaçları

1- To provide general concepts for engineering seismology and earthquake ground motion,
2- To define behavior of structures under seismic effects,
3- To give basic principles of earthquake resistant design of structures considering relevant codes,
4- To teach assessment and retrofitting of structural systems.
5- To give an ability to apply the knowledge on engineering problems.

* Earthquake motion and its characteristics, Faults and tectonic zones, Earthquake spectra, Earthquakes andsite conditions, Soil structure interaction
* Vibration of structures under seismic effects, Mode superposition
method, Damping, Ductility.
* Behavior of reinforced concrete structures under seismic loads, Design of
earthquake resistant structures.
* Earthquake resistant design codes, Limit conditions, Structural irregularities.
* Design methods for seismic effects, Rules for Reinforced concrete structures
Damages observed after
earthquakes, Repair and retrofitting of rc structures, Assessment of existing structures.
