Dersin Amaçları The ultimate goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of the Earth's history and the tools necessary to interpret the geological record. To this end, the contents of courses such as sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, paleontology, and geochemistry will be summarized.
Dersin Tanımı Historical Geology is the study of Earth's history, focusing on the processes and events that have shaped our planet over billions of years. It examines rock formations, fossils, and stratigraphic records to understand the dynamic interactions between Earth's physical, chemical, and biological systems. Key topics include plate tectonics, mountain building, mass extinctions, paleoclimates, and the development of Earth's biosphere.
Dersin Çıktıları Main outputs are;
to understand the timeline of Earth's formation, surface changes, and the evolution of life.
to investigate the movement of Earth's plates and their role in shaping continents, oceans, and mountain ranges.
to explore past climate changes and environmental shifts to better predict future trends and their consequences.
to study major extinction events and the development of life to understand biodiversity and adaptation over time.
to learn Earth's "archive" preserved in rocks, fossils, and sedimentary layers to uncover its dynamic history.
to anticipate future geological and environmental developments by using knowledge of previous processes of Earth
