JEO 256E - Yapısal Jeoloji
Dersin Amaçları
Understand fundamental concepts of stress, strain, and rock rheology relevant to deformation in the Earth’s crust.
Recognize, classify, and describe common geological structures (e.g. joints, faults, folds, foliations, lineations, shear zones) in the field and from maps/sections.
Develop skills in geometric and kinematic analysis of structures using field data, stereonets, and cross-sections.
Gain familiarity with the mechanical processes responsible for different types of deformation (brittle, ductile, and brittle–ductile).
Interpret tectonic settings and deformation histories using structural data and their relationships with stratigraphy, magmatism, and metamorphism.
Dersin Tanımı
Structural Geology focuses on the geometry, kinematics and mechanics of rock deformation in the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. The course introduces fundamental concepts of stress, strain, rock rheology, and provides a systematic description and analysis of geological structures such as joints, faults, folds, foliations, lineations and shear zones.
