Dersin Amaçları • To understand how weather events form.
• To learn how atmospheric dynamics can be applied to Meteorological Engineering problems.
• To improve the weather forecasts by developing new methods.
Dersin Tanımı Fiziksel boyutlar ve birimler, Toplam diferansiyel, Kartezyen koordinatlarda hareket denklemleri, Temel kuvvetler, Hareketli eksen takımları ve görünen kuvvetler, Küresel koordinatlarda hareket denklemleri, Hareket denklemlerinin ölçek analizi, Jeostrofik yaklaşım, Statik atmosferin yapısı, Hidrostatic yaklaşım, Süreklilik eşitliği, Termodinamik enerji denklemi, Barometrik formüller, Statik kararlılık Parsel metodu, Potansiyel sıcaklığa göre kararlılık kriterleri, İzobarik koordinatlarda temel denklemler, Tabii koordinatlarda temel eşitlikler ve dengelenmiş akış.
Dersin Çıktıları On completing this course, students should/should be able to,
1. Explain the physical meanings of the fundamental equations that solve the atmospheric motions.
2. Explain the leading effects of the conservation of momentum, conservation of mass, and conservation of energy laws on atmospheric motions.
3. Determine the effects of the apparent forces that occur by the rotation of Earth-like Coriolis and Centrifugal forces in atmospheric motions.
4. Understand the fundamental laws of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics that manage the atmospheric motions to determine the occurred weather and climate, and to simplify to use in the applications.
5. Explain the wind and temperature fields of systems seen on the synoptic cards obtained by the results of scale analysis of synoptic meteorology with the approximations like geostrophic wind and hydrostatic atmosphere approach.
6. State the atmospheric stability and instability by TEMP diagrams since it has importance to determine the vertical motions that are the fundamental reasons for cloud and precipitation formation.
7. Apply to certain atmospheric conditions by using the formula obtained by a fundamental hydrostatic equation.
