Course Objectives
Advanced Topics in Telecommunication
Course Description
The course aims to familiarize students with the core concepts of machine learning. It further delves into the application of these advanced techniques in the design and optimization of wireless communication systems and mobile networks. A recent shift in wireless communication R&D has been towards fifth-generation (5G) systems, exploring the potential of enhancing these networks with machine learning capabilities. Consequently, this course provides a foundational introduction to machine learning, leading into its application in shaping physical layer strategies in wireless communications and optimizing mobile networks.
Course Outcomes
After finishing the course, students will be able to:
1) apply the mathematical principles of probability, linear algebra and optimisation
2) apply machine learning principles in the design of some physical layer techniques in
wireless communications
3) design and optimize intelligent mobile networks by applying the principles of
machine learning
4) understand the principles of machine learning and apply the fundamental principles
for regression and classification
After finishing the course, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
1) The application of machine learning in network design
2) The fundamentals of machine learning
3) The application of machine learning in the design of physical layer techniques for
wireless communications
