UCK 203E - Circuits, Signals and Systems

Course Objectives

1. To provide the models of electrical circuits and elements to be learned.
2. To give the ability to analyze electrical circuits up to the second-order in various domains.
3. To provide the continuous-time signals and systems to be learned for the electrical circuits.
4. To give the ability of proposing solutions with analog electrical circuit to the air vehicle and aeronautical problems.

Course Description

Voltage, current, power and energy. Ideal basic circuit element. Electrical resistance (Ohm’s Law). Independent and dependent voltage and current sources. Kirchhoff’s current and voltage law. Node, branch, loop and mesh definitions. Node voltage method and mesh current method. Thevenin and Norton equivalents. The Operational Amplifier. The inverting-, noninverting-, summing- and difference-amplifier circuits. The inductor and inductance. The capacitor and capacitance. Series and parallel combinations of two-terminal elements. Natural and step responses of first-order RC and RL circuits, disclosing the general solution. The integrating- and differentiating-amplifier circuits. Natural and step responses of second-order RLC circuits. Definition of the Laplace Transform and properties. The step and impulse function. Inverse Laplace Transform. Poles and zeros. Circuit elements in s-domain. Solving circuit in s-domain. The transfer function. Stability. The convolution integral. Frequency response and cutoff frequency. Low-pass, high-pass, bandpass and bandreject filters. The Fourier Transform and properties.
