Course Objectives 1. To give students elementary knowledge on the hydrological sciences.
2. To give students an understanding on the precipitation process and the movement of water in the hydrologic cycle as well as the solution of the water related problems by the meteorologists.
3. To provide a basis for students to understand the water related events.
Course Description Water and environmental relations. Water divide and collection points and lines. Watershed and its geomorphologic properties. Snow hydrology. Water cycle and components. Fundamental basic balance equation in hydrology. Evaporation, transpiration and evapotranspiration calculation methods. Precipitation-surface flow relations. Discharge and continuity curves. Rational method and flood calculations. Hydrograph theory and calculation methods. Various empirical calculation methods in hydrology.
Course Outcomes 1. An ability to analyze hydrologic cycle and its components
2. An ability to analyze and calculate the components of water budget surface area
3. An ability to analyze precipitation data, complete the lack of precipitation data
4. An ability to understand the physical basics of evaporation and calculate the evaporation
5. An ability to undestand the infiltration and percolation and calculate them
6. An ability to calculate hydraulic conductivity; understand aquifers and Darcy's Law
7. An ability to analyze the groundwater flow and calculate its velocity and flow
8. An ability to understand the surface runoff and calculate flow and velocity of surface runoff
