Course Objectives
1.Understanding the Aircraft Conceptual Design process
2.Learning the methods used during the Aircraft Conceptual Design
3.Intensifying the knowledge by means of weakly studies and a term project
Course Description
Competitor study. First guess sizing. Airfoil and geometry selection. Thrust to weight ratio and wing loading. Initial sizing. Configuration layout. Propulsion and fuel system integration. Landing gear and subsystems. Aerodynamics.
Course Outcomes
Student, who passed the course satisfactorily can:
1. Understand the Aircraft Conceptual Design process
2. Be able to prepare an aircraft conceptual design report, have some experience on teamwork
3. Be able to perform an aircraft competitor study
4. Be able to perform an aircraft sizing study
5. Understand and be able to apply the basic selection criteria of airfoil and wing/tail geometry parameters
6. Be able to select horsepower to weight ratio (or thrust to weight ratio) and wing loading for an aircraft
with specified performance requirements and design mission
7. Be able to draw basic aircraft 3 view drawings
8. Have basic knowledge on propulsion integration
9. Have basic knowledge on landing gear design
10. Roughly be able to estimate aerodynamic characteristics of a given aircraft

Required Facilities
Computer will be used for report writing, various analyses and technical drawings
