Course Objectives 1.To provide students knowledge on all cases of combined stress loading.
2.To teach methods used for the analysis of hyperstatic systems.
3.To teach the principles and criteria used in stress analysis.
4. To introduce the concept of structural stability and other advanced topics.
Course Description Transverse shear, Combined loadings, Stress transformations, Strain transformations, Failure criterias, Design of beams and shafts, Deflection of beams and shafts, Buckling, Energy Methods.
Course Outcomes After completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. Calculate shear stress and shear center in beams (a3,c2,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)*
2. Analyze combined loading and superposition of stresses (a3,c2,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
3. Apply transformations of stress and strain, (a3, e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
4. Use theories of failure in stress analysis (a3,c2,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
5. Design the beams and shafts (a3,c3,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
6. Obtain elastic curve of beams (a3,c1,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
7. Solve the hyperstatic systems appying various methods (a3,c1,e3,f1,h1,i1,j1,k1)
8. Analyze buckling of columns (a3,c1,e3,f1,i1,j1,k1)
9. Apply the energy methods to the structures (a3,c1,e3,f1,i1,j1,k1)
