Course Objectives
Main objective of this course to prepare the students to effectively use the first and the second laws of thermodynamics in every kind of engineering applications.
Course Description
Concepts and definitions. Pure material and P-v-T properties. Work, heat, state and change of state. Quasi-equilibrium processes. Energy transfer by heat, work and mass. The first law of Thermodynamics for closed and open systems. Internal energy, enthalpy and specific heats. The second law of Thermodynamics for closed and open systems. Entropy. Steady-State and Steady-Flow processes. Uniform-State and Uniform-Flow processes. Availability and irreversibility. Energy conversion. Power cycles. Chemical reactions. Chemical equilibrium. Le Chatelier Principle. Multi-phase systems. Schrödinger’s Equation. Energy Spectrum of the Hydrogen Atom. Statistical Thermodynamics. Thermodynamic Non-Equilibrium processes during spacecraft re-entry and high-speed flight.
