Course Objectives
1- To give an introduction to optimization and its use in design
2- To teach how to model engineering problems suitable for optimization
3- To give mathematical models for optimality concept and analyze them
4- To teach how to program optimization problems using numerical techniques
5- To provide evaluation of numerical results from optimization
Course Description
Formulation of optimization problems, Optimization concepts using the graphical method, Optimality conditions for unconstrained and constrained problems, Linear programming, Numerical methods for nonlinear unconstrained and constrained problems.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the following subjects;
1- Modelling an engineering problem suitable for optimization
2- Including optimization into design cycle
3- Defining design variables, objectives, and constraints, and their effects
4- Defining suitable algorithm to the problem and programming.
