Course Objectives
1. Provide background and experience with key elements of structural design such as design constraints, loads, material selection, fabrication, assembly, and testing.
2. To provide opportunities to develop skills such as creativity, understanding and applying problem-solving techniques, technical communication, teamwork, understanding engineering ethics, taking into account economy and environmental factors in design, and total quality management, which are necessary to be a successful designer.
Course Description
Bu ders, hava-uzay araçlarının yapısal tasarımının, uygun malzemeler seçilerek, imal edilebilirlik ve bakım kolaylığı gibi hususlara dikkat edilerek, uygulanan yüklere ve çevresel etkilere karşı yapısal bütünlüğünü sağlayacak şekilde nasıl gerçekleştirileceğini öğretmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Ders, hava-uzay aracının maruz kaldığı yükleri, havacılık yapıları için hasar kriterlerini, yapısal montajları ve bağlantı elemanlarını, malzeme seçimini, imalat yöntemlerini kapsamaktadır.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course,
1. Understand the nature, fundamental concepts and steps of structural design process.
2. Understand the design inputs and constraints, and create the alternative design configurations
3. Understand different failure criteria and apply the structural design.
4. Gain the ability to design of structural connections to obtain sub-assemblies, larger assemblies and completed aerospace products.
5. Gain the ability to evaluate the producibility of design and cost analysis of manufacturing process.
6. Understand safe life and fail-safe (damage tolerant) design concepts and methods.
7. Understand the structural detoriations due to environmental effects and preventation methods
8. To be able to select appropriate materials for the design, taking into account material properties, costs and other parameters.
9. Understand the importance of availability, maintainability, easy of repairability for design.
