Course Objectives Primary objective of this course is to teach the student the basic principles of jet engines and propulsion and also expand students’ knowledge about the general performance analyses of the aircraft engines.
Course Description Aero-thermodynamic principles for jet propulsion. Gas turbine engines for aircrafts. Parametric cycle analysis for ideal engines. Engine component performances. Parametric cycle analysis for real engines. Engine performance analyses.
Course Outcomes On completing this course students should :
1. Recognizing aircraft engines and understanding classification basis. (a1,c1,e1,h1,i1,j1,k1)*
2. Understanding how thrust established by aircraft engines. (a2,c2,e2,h2,i1,j1,k1)*
3. Understanding primary performance parameters in aircraft engines. (a1,c1,e1,h1,i1,j1,k1)*
4. Understanding how to use thermodynamic cycles on performance analysis at aircraft engines. (a3,c3,e3,h3,i2, j2,k3)*
5. Understanding the effects of reaction heat, adiabatic flame temperature on overall performance about combustion chambers of aircraft engines. (a3,c3,e3,h3,i2,j2,k3)*
6. Ability to calculate the ideal performances at design conditions of aircraft engines and their components. (a3,c3,e3,h3,i2,j2,k3)*
7. Understanding the inclusion of losses and their effects due to the components of aircraft engines on the overall performance analysis. (a3,c3,e3,h3,i2,j2,k3)*
8. Ability to calculate the aircraft performance values and evaluate them at realistic cases whit losses. (a3,c3,e3,h3,i2,j2,k3)*
