UCK 472E - Aeroelasticity
Course Objectives
Understand the effects of various aeroelastic properties on the design and performance of aeronautical vehicles. Students should be able to quantify the effects of the inertial, structural and aerodynamic parameters that affect divergence, control surface reversal and flutter. Students should be able to calculate critical speeds for these phenomena for simple wings using steady, and in the case of flutter, quasi-steady aerodynamic assumptions.
Course Description
Introduction to aeroelasticity: Definition, historical background. Static Aeroelastic Phenomena: Divergence, aileron effectiveness and reversal, twisting of simple two-dimensional wing with aileron. Flutter: The nature of flutter, flutter of simple system with one and two degrees of freedom, V-g method.
