Course Objectives 1. To train students to obtain and analyze fluid properties and flow parameters.
2. To train students on how to define and solve flow problems.
3. To provide students with experience in using computer to solve the fluid flow problems.
Course Description Properties of fluids, Classification of fluids, Fluid satistics and its applications, Fluid flow phenomena, Basic equations of fluid flow, Mechanical energy equation, Incompressible flow in pipes and channels, Flow of compressible fluids, Transportation of fluids, Measurement of flowing fluids.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
1. Find the physical properties of fluids in literature
2. Determine and analyze fluid properties and flow parameters
3. Derive laminar and turbulent velocity profiles for flow systems
4. Derive mechanical energy balances for incompressible and compressible flows, and demonstrate ability to design flow systems
5. Determine the friction loss for flow systems
6. Choose measurement methods to determine fluid and flow properties of various systems
7. Use computers and software to calculate flow parameters
