Course Objectives
The aim is to develop analytical thinking by enabling students to understand the interrelationship of structure-property-processes,
To provide basic information about today's engineering materials, to examine the application areas of materials.
Course Description
This course gives information about atomic structures and interatomic bonds, the basics of crystallography and structures of solid crystals, structural defects in solid materials, diffusion, mechanical properties of materials, strain and strengthening mechanisms, phase diagrams, corrosion mechanism and protection methods. This course also discusses the properties and application areas of metal, ceramic, polymer and composite materials
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course ave knowledge about 1. basic concepts, technologies and terms related to materials science, 2. general properties of ceramic, metal, polymer and composite materials. 3. mechanisms of elastic and plastic deformation and strengthening 4. structure-property-process interrelation. 5. the effect of atomic bonds, atomic arrangement, crystal structure and bond properties of the material.
