Course Objectives
1. to use their knowledge of engineering economics in evaluating the economics (investment costs and operating costs, profitability) of a chemical process
2. to apply the methods used in constructing the optimization problems to find the optimum solutions in process design.
3. to apply typical control and regulation strategies in process design .
4. to develop awareness of the ethical foundation of the engineering profession
5. to discuss their designs in term of safety and impact upon the environment
6. to use chemical process design simulation software (Aspen Plus, ChemCAD) to design new processes and to improve existing chemical processes
7. to perform effective oral and written communication, and team work
Course Description
Estimation of capital and manufacturing costs. Engineering economic analysis. Process optimization. Process troubleshooting and debottlenecking. Process control strategies concept. Health, Safety and the Environment. Ethics and professionalism. Applying the knowledge gained to a range of design and operation scenarios.
