KMM 411E - Process Control
Course Objectives
1) To train students to understand and analyze unsteady processes.
2) To train students to choose an appropriate control system for a specific process and evaluate the system response to the input parameters.
3) To train students to use softwares (MATLAB, simulink) in problem solving.
4) To provide experience in literature search in the library and on the web.
Course Description
Basic concepts in process control, Theoretical models, Laplace transforms, Transfer functions, Transient responses for open/closed-loops, Dynamic behavior of fist order and second order processes, Development of empirical models from process data, Feedback control-loop, Instrumentation in process control, Controller design, Stability criteria in closed-loop control systems, Tuning of PID controller, Performance criteria, Frequency response analysis, feedforward control loop and ratio control.
