Course Objectives
1. To give students wireless communication network architectures and network design concepts.
2. To teach the duties of wireless communication network layers.
3. To give students the basics of wireless communication network management.
Course Description
Introduction to wireless communication networks and mobile computing. Network architectures and components. Open system interconnection (OSI) Reference Model: Revision of physical layer concepts, medium access control (MAC), network and transport layers. Quality of service (QoS), security and authentication management. Mobility support and mobile computing in wireless communication networks. Network performance evaluation. Wireless local area networks and mobile networks. Applications and outlook.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course acquire the following skills:
1. Understanding wireless communication network architectures, units and their functions.
2. Understand the OSI Reference Model, related network layers and their roles.
3. Performance measurement and analysis in wireless communication networks.
4. Understanding the effects of navigation on communication architecture.
5. To know the basics of mobile computing.
6. Understand the main theories of wireless local area network systems.
