Course Objectives .1. Encouragement of facing problems and producing practical solutions applying knowledge of engineering principles. (1,8,9)
2. Learning the steps of practical solutions : Describing the problem, determining the basic points, planning the solution accordingly. (3,5,10,11,12)
3. Comprehending the improving effect of team work in developing skills (2,4,6,7)
4. Learning to make use of documents, catalogues etc. in order to find out the appropriate elements for application. (2,3,9)
5. Gaining the ability to interpret data of experiments. (2,7)
Course Description This course covers the following topics : Static (accuracy, sensitivity, linearity etc.) and dynamic characteristics (frequency response, cutoff frequency, damping, natural frequency, etc.) of sensors. Principles of IC-sensors. Resistive signal conditioning circuits : Voltage dividers, linearizing circuits. Balancing and deflection circuits with Wheatstone bridges, load cells. Sensitivity in bridge circuits. Circuits in industrial instrumentation: Instrumentation amplifiers and related notions (CMRR, SMRR, PSRR, offset, drift, noise), chopper amplifiers. Shielding and grounding techniques. AC bridges, signal conditioning for reactance variation sensors, carrier amplifiers, charge amplifiers. Analogue/Digital and Digital/Analogue Converters. Data acquisition. Telemetry methods.
Experiments on various instrumentation circuits : Measurement of temperature, force, strain, displacement, angle, flow, ?C controlled measuring systems.
