Course Objectives
- Apply key project management tools and techniques, such as Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Gantt Charts, Critical Path Method (CPM), and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), to structure and schedule projects effectively.
- Develop project scope statements, define deliverables, and manage scope creep to ensure project success.
- Analyze and mitigate project risks through structured risk assessment methodologies, ensuring project resilience.
- Optimize resource allocation using leveling and smoothing techniques, balancing project constraints efficiently.
- Monitor and control project performance using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), variance analysis, and earned value techniques.
- Evaluate and compare international project management standards, including PMBOK and ISO 21500, and understand their applications in engineering and business environments.
- Utilize probabilistic project scheduling techniques (PERT and GERT) to model uncertainty and improve decision-making in dynamic project environments.
Course Description
Project management is a critical skill in engineering and business environments, enabling professionals to plan, execute, and control projects effectively within constraints of time, cost, and resources. This course provides a structured approach to understanding the principles and best practices of project management, covering both traditional and modern methodologies.
Students will gain hands-on experience with project planning tools such as Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Critical Path Method (CPM), and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). The course also integrates Agile project management frameworks, resource optimization techniques, cost control strategies, and risk management methodologies.
Key industry standards such as PMBOK and ISO 21500 will be introduced, ensuring students are familiar with globally recognized project management frameworks. In addition, the course will cover probabilistic project scheduling using PERT and GERT, providing insights into decision-making under uncertainty.
