EEF 206 - Signal Processing and Linear Systems

Course Objectives

1. To provide the necessary information for the properties and classification of continuous-time and discrete-time signals and systems
2. To provide the necessary information for the frequency domain and transformation domain analysis of continuous-time and discrete-time linear systems
3. To provide information on the applications of these concepts in Electrical-Electronics Engineering

Course Description

Introduction to continuous-time (CTS) signals and systems; classification of CTS signals and important CTS signals; SZ system properties; SZ linear time invariant (LZD) systems: impulse response, SZ convolution integral, differential equations; SZ Fourier series expansion (SZFS); SZ Fourier transform (SZFD); Relationship between CTSFD and CTSFS; Laplace transform; Transform domain analysis of SZ-LZD systems; Sampling and sampling theorem; Uniform Quantization; Introduction to discrete-time (CTS) signals and systems; classification of CTS signals and important CTS signals; AZ system properties; AZ-LZD systems; Time domain representation of CTS-LZD systems: impulse response, CTS convolution sum, difference equations; CTS Fourier series expansion (CTS); CTS Fourier transform (CTSFD); Relationship between CTSFD and CTSFS; z-transform; Transform domain analysis of AZ-LZD systems; Communication applications; Modulation and demodulation; Filtering; Multi-dimensional signals; Image processing applications.
