ELK 450 - Permanent Magnet Motor Technologies and their Design
Course Objectives
1. To give detailed information on developing and widely used permanent magnet electric motor technologies, operating characteristics and applications.
2. To provide an approach to solve the problems of permanent magnet electric motors in industrial and servo applications.
3. To provide principles, methods, tips and solution approaches for the design and optimization of permanent magnet electric motors
4. To gain the ability of electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical modeling and analysis of permanent magnet electric motors using analytical and numerical methods
5. To provide an understanding of the drive systems of the permanent magnet electric motor and their control strategies
Course Description
Structures, types, principles and comparison of permanent magnet electric motors with competitor motor technologies, soft and hard ferromagnetic materials used in PM motors, mathematical modeling and simulation, drive systems and control techniques, position sensors and sensorless control techniques, electromagnetical, thermal and mechanical designs of PM motors analytically and numerically, design problems and solutions to be encountered, finite element analysis (FEA), FEA software and processes used in design, optimization and application examples.
