Course Objectives i. Power system components.
ii. Power in single and three-phase systems.
iii. Transmission systems parameters.
iv. Steady-state analysis of transmission systems.
vi. Faulted power system analysis.
V. System protection and stability.
Course Description Basic principles of electrical power transmission systems. Circuit equivalent models of AC transmission systems for symmetric and steady operations. Active and reactive power flow. Automatic voltage and generation control. Reactive power compensation. Analysis of balanced and unbalanced faults. Transmission system protection. Basic principles of system stability. Fundamentals of DC power transmission.
Course Outcomes At the end of the course students should be able to
-identify the structure of modern power systems.
-identify required power definitions and equations.
-determine transmission system parameters.
-analyze the power transmission systems.
-analyze and understand the faulted power systems.
-understand the fundamentals of protection systems.
-have a knowledge of power system stability.
