END 337E - Intr. to Operations Research

Course Objectives

I. Guide the students in using different mathematical modeling techniques with OR,
II. Teach students different methods that are used for numerical decision making,
III. Make students gain skills in finding optimal solutions to problems.

Course Description

This course aims to teach the production and management concepts, quantitative decision making, modeling philosophy and model building, linear programming and Simplex algorithm and Big M Methods, Duality and economic analysis, transportation models and their solution methods, formulating integer problems and finding appropriate solutions, algorithms or heuristics to solve them, teach students how to tackle goal programming and the use of Lindo, Excel Solver, OpenSolver for Excel, and GAMS software for solving linear models.
