Course Objectives 1 - To provide the information about the mechanisms and functions of machine tools AS the most important elements of production systems
2 - To analyze the ROLE of machine tools with respect to the measures of in-time procurement, quality and cost
Course Description To provide information about the mechanisms and functions of machine tools as the most important elements of production systems To analyze the role of machine tools with respect to the measures of in-time procurement, quality and cost.
Course Outcomes 1 - Recognize production goals during machine tool operations and the factors affecting metal cutting
2 - Integrate machine tool operations with Total Quality Management and recent technological developments
3 - Recognize the importance of scheduling, material requirements planning and layout strategies (Cellular Manufacturing, etc.) during the operations of machine tools
4 - Determine the most effective product flow in terms of machine tool operations (milling, drilling, counter-sinking, reaming- grinding, honing and lapping)
5 - Determine the most appropriate metal cutting conditions during machine tool operations (milling, drilling, counter-sinking and reaming, thread cutting and gear manufacturing)
6 - Provide the selection of the most appropriate tool materials with respect to the operations of machine tools
7 - Provide economic operation of non-conventional machines
