ISL 121E - Introduction to Management Engineering and Ethics
Course Objectives
This course is an orientation course for the first-year students of the Management Engineering Program.
The purpose of the first 5 weeks is to introduce students to the ethical responsibilities they may encounter in their professional life as engineers and to inform them about possible conflicts that may arise in professional life.
The second half of the course is to introduce students to the general subjects of Management Engineering; to distinguish management-related issues from management engineering; to lay the foundation for the courses they will take in the later stages of the program and to relate these to design processes.
Course Description
Students will have detailed information on the profession through lectures, invited speakers and projects. The design project will enable the students to develop their creativity, written and oral communication skills, and to experience teamwork. The course introduces Ethical values, Theories of ethics, Evaluation of the conformity of ethical decisions to societal norms, Ethical problems specific to management engineering profession.
