Course Objectives
to understand the development of information technology and the emergence of
regulation (pros and cons)
to have a basic knowledge of privacy and surveillance in the age of Internet.
to describe debates on freedom of expression on the Internet.
critical assesment of Law no. 5651 on the Regulation of Publications on the Internet and Suppression of Crimes Committed by means of Such Publications.
to understand what is cybercrime and what are the provisions on computer related crime in the Turkish Penal Code and the other relevant regulations.
to describe obtaining and protecting of domain names.
the impact of the Internet on intellectual property law and the application of Law no. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works; new legal and social problems arising by social networking sites.
Course Description
This course adresses wide range of legal problems related to the information and
communication technologies, of which the Internet is the primary component. Internet law is highly dynamic, rapidly evolving and complex area of law. By the end of the course, students will be able to sort through such legal complexities; express the basic concepts of Internet law; become aware of the significiant impact of new information technologies(especially the Internet) both on social, political and legal discussions; develop legal argumentation in cases related to this field.
