Course Objectives
To develop an analytical and critical understanding of the aggregate macroeconomic variables such as national income, growth, productivity, unemployment, inflation and economic fluctuations.
Course Description
The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of the aggregate macroeconomic variables such as national income, growth, productivity, unemployment, inflation and economic fluctuations. We look at how these macro variables are defined and measured; identify the basic observed trends in related macro data; explore their causes and effects. We will also emphasize how they relate to each other and their relevance to economic policy making. The latter half of the course will focus on the implications of an open economy context for these macroeconomic variables, through exploration of international trade, capital flows, exchange rates and balance of payments.
