Course Objectives 1. To teach about vibrations and their effects.
2. To teach methods of vibration damping.
3. To teach about the vibrations between crankshaft and propeller.
Course Description Definition and terminology. Simple harmonic motion. Combination of two simple harmonic motions. Undamped vibrations. Torsional vibrations. Torsional vibrations on crankshaft and propulsion systems. Critical speed. Vibration dampers. Determining the natural frequency. Damped vibrations. Steady state forced vibration. Electrical circuits. Two degree of freedom systems. Multi mass lumped systems.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Learn about theoretical knowledge about vibration.
II. Learn about the vibrations, reasons and results.
III. Learn about the effects of vibration to shipboard platform.
IV. Learn about technological precautions related to the vibration prevention.
