Course Objectives 1- To teach knowledge about marine insurance and applications,
2- To provide understanding of relationships between ship management and insurance rules.
3- To teach the principles of Turkish Maritime Insurance Law and British Maritime Insurance Law.
Course Description Definitions of Insurance, Important Concepts of Insurance Law, Insurance Policy, Contracts of Insurance, Hull and Machinery Insurance, General Clauses/Conditions of Turkish Hull Policy, Institute Hull Clauses, P&I (Club) Insurance, Coverage, Functions and Main Systems of P&I, Cargo Insurance, Functions of Marine Insurances in Cases of Several Marine Casualties, Collision, Salvage, Wreck removal, General Average, Marine Pollution, Fire, Personal Injury, Death and Injury, and Damage to Cargo and Loss of Cargo.
Course Outcomes I. To understand, insurance terminology and to learn insurance contracts, burdens & responsibilities of the parties,
II. To comprehend, the maritime risks covered by insurances,To learn types of maritime insurances,
III. To learn the regulations of Maritime Insurance Law ( Hull-P&I, Cargo)
IV. To get and apply the relations between insurance rules and ship management rules and to learn methods of collecting of evidences required by insurance companies.
