Course Objectives
To teach Basic Law, Maritime Law and their details,
2- To teach academicals research and prepare a paper relevant with maritime law,
3- To introduce the international maritime law conventions and teach the details.
Course Description
Law (in general), branches, sources of law. Maritime law, branches, sources, historical development and specifications of maritime law. Maritime public law, regulations regarding international law of the sea. Internal waters and territorial sea, international straits, contigous zone, continental shelf, exclusive economic zone. Legal status of the Turkish Straits. Regulations regarding marine pollution. Regulations regarding shipping law. Ship, seaworthiness, port of registry, registrations. Captain (Master), definition, duties, authorisation and liabilities of master. Shipowner, disponent owner, limited and/or unlimited liabilities. Carriage contractors (contract of affretments). Carrier, liabilities and limitations. Accidents at sea, collision, salvage, general average. Marine Insurances.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. To understand the details of the basic law and main terms,
II. To comprehend the main sources, subjects of Maritime law and its details, and analysis laws cases,
III. To learn the details of Maritime Labour law,
IV. To learn ship management in details of basic elements, contracts, responsibilities.
