Course Objectives 1. To teach the basic concepts of HRM,
2. To teach the basic concepts of company, ship and seafarer management,
3. To teach training and performance assessment of seafarers ,
4. To teach HRM applications in the maritime.
Course Description Fundamentals and functions of Human Resources Management (HRM). Company-ship organization and seafarer management. HRM application on seafarers; seafarers HRM planning, personnel selection and employment, training, certification, performance assessment and career planning. Personnel harmonization to ship and sea life. The concept of International and strategic HRM and their applications in maritime.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Learn basics of Human Resource Management (HRM).
II. Understand the relation between management of ship and HRM functions.
III. Understand the relation between seafarers and HRM functions.
IV. Learn training and performance assessment requirements to be a seafarer.
V. Understand the role and importance of HRM in maritime industry.
Pre-requisite(s) -
Required Facilities Analysis of some of the current subjects in human resources management by students and sharing the outcomes of these analyses in the class in a participative fashion
