Course Objectives
1. To teach and get ability fundamental principles of Radar and ARPA, limitations and obtaining efficient usages,
2. To teach and get ability fundamental principles of ECDIS, limitations and obtaining efficient usage,
3. To teach Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems,
4. To teach effective usage of those equipment for safe navigation.
Course Description
Fundamentals of Radar and ARPA, functions and operations. Radar plotting, manoeuvring board, and manual (hand) and automatic plotting. Electronic charts and ECDIS (introduction to different type of ECDIS). Automatic Identification System (AIS). Using Radar, ARPA, AIS and ECDIS to ensure safe navigation. Long-range identification and tracking system (LRIT). Voyage Data Recorder (VDR). IMO performance standards. Integrated Bridge Systems. E-navigation applications.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to;
I. Learn about general, operational principles and usage of Radar and ARPA,
II. Learn about general, operational principles and usage of ECDIS,
III. Learn about assessing information gathering from Radar, ARPA and ECDIS with their limitations for safety of navigation,
IV. Learn about other bridge electronic equipment with their interactions,
V. Learn about Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems, their effective usage for safe navigation and avoiding collision.
