Course Objectives
1. To teach about thermodynamic basics.
2. To teach about the laws of thermodynamics and entropy.
3. To teach about bases of heat design of engineering systems.
Course Description
Fundamentals of thermodynamics. Energy, heat and work. The laws of
thermodynamics. Carnot principles. Clausius inequality. Entropy. Principle of the
increase of entropy. Gas power cycles. Vapor power cycles. Refrigeration cycles, heat
pump. Performance problems.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will;
I. Know the basic principles and terminology of energy conversions.
II. Apply the zeroth and first law of thermodynamics and solve related problems.
III. Apply the second and third law of thermodynamics and solve related problems.
IV. Knowentropy and the principle of the increase of entropy.
V. Understand the power and refrigeration cycles and solve related performance
problems.
