DNK 201E - Dynamics

Course Objectives

1. To understand the key concepts and ideas of Dynamics
2. To comprehend interrelated but separate principles of Dynamics, understand their distinctive features, and learn to apply on proper type of problems
3. To introduce different approaches for studying dynamic problems
4. Perform dynamic analysis of rigid mechanical systems in a systematic way and to evaluate resulting dynamic configurations
5. To introduce the fundamentals of mechanical vibrations and study one-degree of freedom systems

Course Description

Particle kinematics: Linear motion; Curvilinear motion using rectangular Cartesian coordinates
Particle kinetics: Newton’s laws of motion; Equations of motion using rectangular Cartesian and polar/cylindrical coordinates
Equations of motion using path coordinates; Principle of work and energy
Conservative forces and potential energy; Power and efficiency; Principle of linear impulse and momentum
Impact; Principle of Angular impulse and momentum
Planar kinematics of rigid bodies: Translation; Rotation about a fixed axis Geometric analysis of the motion; Relative velocities on a rigid body; Instantaneous center of rotation
Accelerations on a rigid body; Rotating reference frames
Planar kinetics of rigid bodies: Moment of inertia; Equations of motion: Curvilinear translation;Rotation about a fixed axis
