Course Name Turkish Akışkanlar Mekaniği English Fluid Mechanics Course Code AKM 204 Credit Lecture (hour/week) Recitation (hour/week) Laboratory (hour/week) Semester 5 3 3 - - Course Language Turkish Course Coordinator Necati Erdem Ünal Kübra Küllahcı Course Objectives 1. To give the definition of fluids and unit systems, 2. To give the principles of hydrostatic and calculation of pressure forces, 3. To evaluate the basic equations for ideal and real fluids in the case of one,two and three dimensional flows.( continuity, energy and impuls-momentum equations.) and their applications. 4. To examine the rotational and irrotational flows. 5. To give the boundarylayer, dimensional analyses and similitude concepts. Course Description Introduction. Unit systems. Hydrostatic. Pressure at a point. Calculation of pressure forces. Kinematics of fluids.Basic equations of one dimensional flow (continuity, energy and impuls-momentum equations). One dimensional flow of ideal fluids. One dimensional flow of real fluids. Two and three dimensional flow of ideal fluids. Potential ( irrotational ) flows. Two and three dimensional flows of real fluids. Boundary layer. Dimensional Analyses and Simililitude. Course Outcomes 1. Learn the definition of fluids and convert the units and unit systems, 2. Learn the principles of hyraulics and calculate the pressure forces on plane and curved surfaces, 3. Apply the basic equations of ideal and real fluids for practical problems, 4. Check the flow rotational or irrotational, 5. Give interpretation about boundary layer, dimensional analyses and similitude, 6. Gain the skill of application of these concepts. Pre-requisite(s) Required Facilities Other Textbook 1.
