Course Objectives
1. To introduce renewable, traditional, alternative energy resources and reserves.
2. To introduce the properties of power plants, basic design criteria, electromechanical equipment and construction structures.
3. To evaluate the parameters that affect the energy (electricity) cost.
4. To teach established exergy and exergy economic analysis methods of power plants.
Course Description
Energy sources used in electrical energy production. Energy market study. Power Plants types and features. Energy cost calculation. Environmental impact of power plants.
Course Outcomes
1. Recognizing conventional and alternative energy resources and evaluating their use in electricity generation technically and economically.
2. To be able to calculate the unit energy cost.
3. To determine the strengths and weaknesses of various types of power plants compared to each other.
4. To be able to study the energy market and demand.
5. To determine the methods of balancing production and consumption.
6. Basic information about the main equipment and functions available in conventional thermal power plants.
7. Identifying methods to improve cycle efficiency in thermal power plants
8. To be able to make rational analysis of power plants with exergy and costing methods based on the second law of thermodynamics.
