MAK 449 - Mechanical Vibrations

Course Objectives

1.To provide the basic vibration engineering principles
2.To be able to develop physical and mathematical models to solve vibration problems encountered in machinery
3.To teach the basic design principles to reduce vibrations in mechanical systems
4.To provide the fundamental principles for distributed parameter systems
5.To develop skills to use computer programs like Matlab in solving vibration problems
6.To be able to use data acquisition systems to make vibration measurements.

Course Description

Introduction to Mechanical Vibrations. Free vibrations. Forced harmonic vibrations. Forced vibrations with an arbitrary force profile. Multi-degree of freedom systems. Design principles to reduce vibrations in mechanical systems. Distributed parameter systems.
