Course Objectives
• To introduce the basic concepts, laws, unit system, vector operations and applications of mechanics,
• To examine the equilibrium states of material points and solid objects, to give the concept of friction and its applications,
• To introduce carrier systems and give solution methods for application areas,
• To introduce the concept of moment of inertia by teaching the concepts of mass, weight and geometric center,
• To introduce the virtual works theorem and its application areas.
Course Description
Statics is the section of rigid body mechanics that deals with the balance problems of objects that remain motionless under the influence of loading or move without acceleration.
Course Outcomes
To give
• Sufficient knowledge of the design problems and their solutions encountered in the main topics mentioned in the course objective paragraph,
• Ability to create a free body diagram and determine unknown forces and moments using this diagram,
• Ability to formulate and solve engineering problems that require knowledge of statics.
