Course Objectives
To impart a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and terminology of energy transformations to students;
To introduce the foundational concepts of thermal design in engineering systems;
To enhance students’ competencies in analysis, application, and effective communication within this domain."Teaching the students the fundamental principles and terminology of energy conversions;
Demonstratig the fundamentals of thermal design in engineering systems. Developing students' skills in analysis, application, and communication in this field.
Course Description
Properties of pure substances
Ideal gas and real gas behavior
Forms of energy: internal energy, heat, and work
First Law of Thermodynamics: energy conservation applied to closed and open systems
Heat engines and thermal efficiency
Second Law of Thermodynamics: concepts of irreversibility and entropy generation
Carnot cycle and Carnot principles
Clausius inequality and the definition of entropy
The Entropy Increase Principle
Exergy (availability) and Second Law analysis of thermodynamic systems
