Course Objectives Teach fundamentals of thermodynamics and heat transfer to thermal systems
Give design knowledge on heating, cooling and refrigerating systems
Teach basic computations related to solar energy.
Course Description Refrigeration,. Carnot refrigeration cycle. Ideal practical cycle. Component analysis of IPC. Absorption refrigeration cycle. Aqua ammonia and LiBr-Water cycles. Heating and cooling of moist air with finned heat exchangers. Solar radiation at the top of the atmosphere and on the earth's surface.
Course Outcomes Make the selection and rough design of the refrigeration cycles.
Learn the computations related to finned heat exchangers, waste heat boilers and do the design of such systems,
Compute the fundamental design parameters related to solar energy,
Become familiar with solar systems.
Pre-requisite(s) Basic thermodynamics and heat transfer knowledge.
