Course Objectives
1. To teach fundamental principles of acoustics
2. To teach how the acoustical measurement systems work and where they can be applied
3. To teach fundamental principles of noise control
4. To teach the adverse effects of noise on human beings and review the existing national and international standards and regulations
Course Description
Introduction to the physics of sound. Sound levels. Decibel concept. Propagation of sound. Hearing mechanism and perception of sound. Noise at work and noise regulations. Propagation of sound in open air and in closed spaces. Absorption and reflection. Measurement systems and techniques. Industrial noise sources. Product sound power measurements. Product sound quality. Barrier and enclosures. Noise control examples. Acoustic materials and elements. Noise control with vibration isolation.
